2025 Restoration Highlights

January 2026

As we enter this new calendar year, we wanted to take a moment to celebrate what an incredible year 2025 was for ecological restoration!

Join us in looking back at the last 12 months in HAT’s Restoration Program:


JANUARY

The Matson Mattocks held their first volunteer invasive species removal session of 2025 and were greeted by winter fungi emerging at Matson Conservation Area, including turkey tail, false turkey tail, and witch’s butter.

FEBRUARY

Carol Brown and the Friends of Havenwood Park celebrated their 10-year anniversary! HAT Board Director Andy MacKinnon led guided walks about the unique ecology of Havenwood Park.


MARCH

We gathered with our friends from Special Bird Service and the W̱SÍ,ḴEM Ivy Project to celebrate Holi, the Hindu festival of colours, love, Spring, and new beginnings.

APRIL

We welcomed back the HAT Field Crew for their 2025 season!


MAY

HAT staff were invited for a day of restoration and learning on Trial Islands Ecological Reserve.


JUNE

SNEMIŦIYE Dominique James, WSÁNEĆ Land Steward and SENĆOŦEN Language Specialist, led a guided plant walk at SṈIDȻEȽ ŦIŦEȽ SṈÁNET (Oak Haven Park).

JULY

Our stewardship team participated in a Wetland Restoration Workshop led by the BC Wildlife Federation and Swan Lake Christmas Hill Nature Sanctuary. 


AUGUST

We gathered together for Max’s last day as Habitat Restoration Supervisor and celebrated everything he contributed to the program!


SEPTEMBER

The Field Crew spent a wonderful week working at a conservation covenant property in Metchosin.


OCTOBER

The Field Crew joined the Stqeeye’ Learning Society for a day of restoration and planting at Xwaaqw’um Wetland.


NOVEMBER

We celebrated the last community event of 2025 for the SṈIDȻEȽ Resiliency Project, led by PEPAKEṈ HÁUTW̱.


DECEMBER

The Friends of Oak Haven Park held their final volunteer event of 2025, under the new leadership of Nancy Shackelford and Nicole da Silva.


Thank you so much to all of the volunteers and partners that make this program so special. We can’t wait to get back out on the land with you all in 2026!
