Local Habitat Partnership

Local leadership for local landscapes

Support the Ecosystems in Your Own Backyard

Across the Capital Regional District, some of the most biodiverse ecosystems in Canada are under increasing pressure from invasive species, habitat fragmentation, and climate change. Without active stewardship, these landscapes and the wildlife that depend on them face ongoing degradation.

Through a Local Habitat Partnership, your organization can directly support the restoration and long-term stewardship of ecologically rich, diverse, and endangered habitats across southern Vancouver Island. By sponsoring a conservation site, you are investing in local biodiversity, tangible restoration work, and measurable environmental outcomes right here in the CRD.

Become a leader in your community and demonstrate your commitment to protecting nature.

Why Your Support Matters

Many protected lands require ongoing care—invasive plants spread rapidly, ecosystem health degrades, and sensitive habitats require monitoring and restoration. Habitat Acquisition Trust works directly on the ground to address these challenges.

Your support enables:

Removal of invasive plant species threatening native ecosystems

Restoration of critical habitat for wildlife and species at risk

Hands-on community volunteer stewardship events

These are direct, local impacts that improve the landscapes your community lives, works, and recreates in. For organizations seeking meaningful environmental engagement, this partnership also offers a way to offset organizational impacts locally while contributing to real conservation outcomes.

Long-term ecological monitoring and mapping

Explore the Sites

Habitat Acquisition Trust has identified restoration sites across the CRD that require immediate stewardship support and whose stewardship will have an outsized ecological impact in the region. Each site represents a unique ecosystem which hosts a variety of native flora and fauna, including many species at risk. Across these sites, we have identified 73 species at risk that require stewardship to ensure their survival. Some of the sites are public parks, while others are on private land.

Select a site below to learn more about its ecosystems, species, needs, and what your partnership will contribute. With your support, these sites can be stewarded to ensure their ecological health long-term.
