Green Spots

Through HAT’s Green Spots and other programs, HAT works with schools to help them connect youth with natural spaces, implement opportunities to maintain, enhance, and expand natural areas at schools.

With the students, planning and planting a native species outdoor nature classroom on the school grounds. Every school is different, and so we work with school and district staff to make sure that school needs are met, and the environment is respected. Some examples of work we have done in the past include:

  • Restoring natural areas on school grounds by removing invasive species and re-planting with native wildflowers

  • Enhance habitat for bats, slugs, owls or amphibians to support Species of Concern with student-led monitoring

  • Connecting teachers with trained volunteer naturalists who are keen to co-lead exploration field trips on and around the school grounds.

Our Green Spots program is currently on hold.
