Hockey for Habitat

March 20 2023

Last Saturday, the HAT team and 3 volunteers came together for a different kind of event - we stepped out of our comfort zone (nature) into a Victoria Royals vs. Prince George Cougars hockey game. In addition to selling tickets to the game, we sold Chuck-a-Puck tickets during the hockey game. It was a lot of fun, and we managed to sell all of the pucks provided! For those who are curious, Chuck-a-Puck is an event that involves throwing foam pucks onto the ice with the goal of hitting a target and winning a prize.

We would like to thank the organizations that generously donated gift cards and vouchers to make up the prize baskets. Shanzee’s Biscuit Cafe, Phillips Soda Works, Bean Around The World, Paws on Cook, Royal BC Museum, and Il Terrazzo. We could not have done this without your support!

A big thank you to our HAT family who purchased tickets to the game and helped to spread the word about the fundraiser. It was lovely to see so many familiar faces at the game. We would also like to extend a thank you to the Victoria Royals Hockey Club for having us. We had a lot of fun and raised awareness for conservation on Southern Vancouver Island.

We enjoyed bringing HAT’s mascot, Garry Oakley (a Garry oak tree) to the game. Children were surprised and amazed by this large wildlife tree! (See Garry Oakley and Marty the Marmot - the Royals mascot - posing together in a photo on the right). Many photos were taken of Garry Oakley that night and we’d love to see them, please share and tag HabitatAcqTrust on social media.
