Plants and Partnership

Recently HAT has been working with the Stewards of Sc’ianew Society (link here) at their new plant nursery and learning space near Beecher Bay.

Working with Cristina Armstrong (founder and director of the society) for the past year has been a real pleasure and we are honoured to have been invited to share her space and learn with her. She is an incredible person whose drive and enthusiasm are inspiring and she is going to continue to do big things in her community and beyond.

This spring we co-hosted two workshops, that focused on land-based learning, skill building, and native plant propagation.

Pictured below are some photos from our building of medicinal plant beds with the support of Nathan Fisk, Restoration Ecologist, who shared his knowledge and experience brought from his incredible plant nursery and restoration space at Fort Rodd Hill. We learned to build plant beds built specifically for KEXMIN (Lomatium nodicaule) and Devil’s Club (Oplopanax horridus) which normally grow near beaches and rivers respectfully, and therefore require special spaces to grow.
